THE WANAWATU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

(To the Editor.) Sir,— Your estimable correspondent, who stylos himself ‘•H.B.’’ in a recent contribution to your journal, states that ho is anxious to ascertain what is the primary cause of the falling off of the attendance, also the drop in the gate takings, at the recent Spring Show. The present writer is of opinion, that it can be traced to the fact that a spirit of relaxation, or the aftermath attached to the cessation of war activities, during which period we existed In a constant state of excitement and high tension, especially so, from a purely spectacular, point of view. This, by the way, unconsciously revolutionised the previous state of affairs. At present, we have neither the taste nor the inclination to attend the show, not even the athletic sports can arouse any live interest. I would suggest that the committee seriously consider the question of reducing the gate charges, also endeavour to secure a general speeding up with the events. As it is at present, the general public are most fastidious and exacting in their tastes and demands. The old order of things in this respect is rapidly passing away, and unless new innovations arc devised, a loss of revenue and a sparse attendance of local residents will be the inevitable result. Let us hope the situation can be saved.— I am, etc., / H. C.
