WINE STORE BURGLED.
A PALMERSTON N®ETH APPAIB. During the darkest hours of Thors* day night, one or more, presumably more, persons effected an entrance, per, , J medium of a back window, to Messrs W. E. Gabriel and Co. 's wine and spirit stores in Church Street West, Palmer-, ston North. Apparently ono of the nocturnal visitors was a connoisseur* for he stripped the shelves of samples of only the best brands of wines and,, spirits. His “bag" included whisky* rum, brandy, port and sherry ; about 21 bottles in all. It is thought the bottles were handed through the window to a supposed accomplice, for there remains the evidence of one or two “misses”—wine bottles completely shattered by falls. Inside the store was also found a broken bottle. The. beer stock of Messrs Gabriel being o t considerable dimensions, it is impossible to say whether any of this “lighter refreshment" was removed from the building. Putting probable lost beer, aside, the firm has suffered to the extent of about £lO.
