RURAL MAILS.
GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS. DISAPPROVED BY COUNTY COUNCIL. The matter of the Government's new proposal to impose a fee for rural mails was brought up by Cr. Mc-i Farlane at the meeting of the Wood, ville County Council Thursday. Several councillors spoke on the subject, strongly condemning the measure. It was felt that the fees imposed would be most unjust for the settlers. Cr. McFarlane thought that the towns should also pay for the privilege of their daily deliveries if the new proposals came into force. He proposed, “That this Council, on behalf of the settlers in the County of Woodville, pretests against the imposition of a rural delivery fee by the Postmaster-. General, it being in their opinion a, form of indirect taxation applied to country settlers, who are at a very great disadvantage as compared to town dwellers. The resolution to be sent to all the County Councils in the Dominion, also, the M.P. for the district.”
The resolution was unanimously carried.
