NORTH ISLAND TOURNEY. (Press Assn) HASTINGS, Dec. 27. Play in the North Island tennis championships continued today in fine but windy weather. Prior to yesterday's rain the courts were hard, after the prolonged spell of dry weather, but today they were tricky, though sunshine and wind dried them out as play progressed. The holding nature of. the courts and a blustery south-westerly wind were features which combined to make play difficult. Rain occasionally held up play. The tournament was mainly in the elimination stages today, the only finals to be contested being the boys' and girls' events. The results are: MEN'S SINGLES. First round.—L. M. Roach beat L.
