RONGOTEA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Having served six years' as chairman of the Rongotca Social Farewell Club, Mr W. Amcy was rc-clcctcd at tho ✓ annual meeting to carry on till tho club has no need to function any longer. A tribute was paid to his gifts of leadership and organisation, tho club having _ carried oil with unusual success during bis term of office. Tho report read by tho treasurer (Mr W. A. Hurst) 6howed that 109 men and women bad been farowclled. Of these eight men had been killed in action and to date 77 have received a welcome home. The income for the six years was £BB4 and of this £419 had been paid ill presentations to members of tho Services going away and returning. Mr G. A. Wonborn (secretary), Mr Hurst and Mrs Wcnborn (convenor of the ladies’ committee) wore thanked for their services and re-elected to office. A letter of thanks is to bo sent to Mr H. V. Cavcrhill (hon. auditor). Mr W. H. Foster presided at a meeting held to discuss the formation of a Homo Guard Service Association. The .attendance was not large and it was thought best not to proceed with the proposal. An alternative suggestion that met with approval was to plan for a rifle club. Mr S. Shailcr was appointed secretary, and with Mr Foster will inquire about a target site and the expense of tho necessary equipment, and report to a future meeting.
