Mrs S. Heappy, formerly of Halcombe and now of New Plymouth, celebrates her 100th birthday tomorrow.
Miss E. N. Wilson, of Auckland, who was a delegate to the P.W.M.U. conference at Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs J. Hubbard at St. Andrew's Manse.
On Wednesday the women’s section of the National Party again held a successful bridge afternoon. The clubrooms in -Rangitikei Street were decorated with Iceland poppies, stocks and roses. The joint conveners were Mesdames Tyrrell and Everiss. The prizewinners.were Mrs Ellery (auction) and Mrs Sinclair (contract), and the prizes had been donated by Messrs G. H. Bennett and Coy. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Prentice and Miss Warren. /
The resignation, owing to pressure of duties, of Mrs E. Watson from the position of president was received with regret at a meeting of St. Andrew’s branch of the P.W.M.U. yesterday. Eulogistic references were made to the faithful service given by Mrs Watson. Miss I. C. Thompson was elected president. Miss Wilson, who was a delegate to the P.W.M.U. conference at Invercargill, reported on the business and activities of the conference. Further details and statistics were given by Rev. J. Hubbard. Both speakers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
