NAZI PARTY GONE
DECLARATION BY DOENITZ. SAVING GERMAN PEOPLE. (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 8 Grand Admiral Doenitz, broadcasting to the German people over the Elensburg radio, said: "On Sunday night I ordered the German High Command to arrange for the unconditional surrender of all the German fighting troops in all theatres of war. From 9 p.m. (Greenwich mean time) on May 8 the guns will be silent."
Doenitz declared that the Nazi Party had disappeared. There was no longer unity in the State Party. The "foundations" on which the German Reich was built had gone. Doenitz said that when he took over from Hitler it was impossible to carry 'on the struggle. Ho believed that his first task was to save the life of the German people. "I pledged myself to alleviate as far as possible the fate of the" German people, but the power lies with the occupying authorities." he said. "It depends on them whether I and the Reich Government formed by me continues in office or not. Duty keeps me at my difficult post. I am uot remaining an hour more than is necessary."
