JAPAN AS NEXT TASK
PRESIDENT TRUMAN'S WARNING. (Q. 30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 8. Proclaiming the complete victory in Europe, President Truman said: "Our blows will continue until the Japanese lay down their arms in unconditional surrender." He told the nation he had set Sunday as a day of prayer in which he wanted all to join. President Truman told the country that the war was only half over and he warned the Japanese that they could expect nothing but complete destruction unless they too surrendered.
"Only when the last Japanese division has surrendered will our fighting job be done," President Truman said. "The striking power and intensity of the Allied blows will steadily increase and will bring utter destruction to Japanese war production, shipping and everything supportin&Sts military activities. Unconditional surrender docs not mean the extermination or enslavement of the Japanese people," ho added. He called on the nation to pray for. strength to bring about the end of the treacherous tyranny of the Japanese.
