“KISS THE BOYS GOODBYE.”

TUNEFUL FILM COMEDY

One of the year’s gayest films opens tomorrow at the Meteor Theatre. The picture which produced this potent reaction was Paramount’s version of the hilarious Broadway hit, “Kiss the Boys Goodbye,” starring Don Amcclie and Mary Martin, and featuring Oscar Levant, Connie Boswell and Rochester, in addition to many other entertainment notables. Under the skilful and playful direction of Victor Schertzingcr, who, incidentally, wrote the music for the film “Kiss the Boys Goodbye” is a lark from beginning to end. The dialogue is racy, tli£ action skims along, and the players behave as though they know they’vo got a good show and arc enjoying themselves. Yes, it’s that kind of picture. Skipping along at a merry and melodic clip, the story is about a Southern girl with stage ambitions, whe can’t get a break on Broadway. But when a handsome stage director begins a search for the most beautiful girl in the Southland to .piny tiie lead in his now show, she returns down South, and schemes tilings so that she is “discovered” by the director. The hoax becomes even more hilarious when she i 6 brought to New York. As Cindy Lou, Mary Martin is better than ever, and Don Ameche. as Lloyd Lloyd, the director, plays his role with appropriate spontaneity and vigor. Oscar Levant's witticisms are fresh and brilliant, Connie Boswell’s singing and Rochester’s specialty dance and song delightful. Rounding out the topnotch east arc Virginia Dale, Barbara Allen, Raymond Walburn, Elizabeth Patterson and Jerome Cowari,
