NOTES. Miss I. Bassett, a trainee at the Wellington Hospital, is spending part of her annual leave with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Bassett, Ahuaturanga Block. Accompanying her as guests are the MUses Rona and Phylis Hill. Miss Joyce Krivan, a local competitor at the Manawalu. competitions, gained third place, with 83 marks, in the pianoforte cla.-s for girls between 10 and 12 years of age. There wore 12 entries. Mr J. A. Nicholas, who lias lately been undergoing treatment in the Dar.nevirke Hospital, has returned to his heme. Advice has reached Mr and Mrs A. Eades that their son, Cpl. A. E. Elides, ir safe and well. I’te. George 1-e (,’ompto, who is posted as missing, is a brother ot -Mrs A. Eades. Mr J. Turner, of Dargaville, is the guest of his niece, Mrs L. Walker. Ross Street. Privates A. Bibby and AJ. Signal!, both from Trentham, are on leave. Mr and Alt's R. C. Leach are visiting northern districts; Mr Leach will attend the annual meeting of the Jersey Breeders’- iJL'oiincil at Te Awanmut. Mr L. Hanlon, of \\ ob lington, is spending a holiday with his parents, Mr and Airs W. Hanlon. Messrs and Jl. Brown, of Kumeroa, are visiting ( hr's.tehureh. The monthly report of the Danncvirke Power Board's engineer (Mr F .O. Devlin) contained the following passage: “Geese flying into the lines at Glengarry caused a short interruption in that locality ou April 21 and two days later a local interruption occurred near Mr Powers farm at Kiritaki, caused hv a niece of hay binder wire being thrown up into the lines. Until some unfortunate person ] s killed or injured the seriousness of Ibis stupid practice may not be realised. In York Street, Danncvirke, a low tension line was brought to the ground by a bullet, the marks of the lead being clearly visible at tbe break.’’ The shop day effort on behalf of crippled children turned out very well, the proceeds being £l2 6s A total clearance of the stalls was clfeeted early. Mcsdames W. Galbraith (president of the local brancti of the Crippled Children Society), J. T. Jlornn (secretary), 11. P. Horne, T.. J. Whittington, H. 11. Little, and T. W ■ Knapp carried out the effort, and received assistance from various contributors. A number of water pump motors which had been submerged by the recent flq oc j in the Manawatu River have been dried out and reconditioned bv the Danncvirke Power Board's staff and put back into service.
