ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION nc Feilding and District Primary Schools A till olio Association committee met last evening, Mr VV. H. (Smith presiding. Keiorring to the annual wports neld in December last, Mr Smith stated that the committee had every reason to congratulate themselves upon the success attained. The gathering had proved successiul in spite ol various difficulties, including petrol restrictions. He was pleased with the support accorded py the country schools and parents. The financial statement was presented by Mr C. V. Jewell (secretary) who Reported that sales of tickets had shown ail increase of 50 per cent, while the entry lees were also higher. Programme sales, however, were lower. It was decided to make the usual donation of live guineas to the lvowhai Pa-rlc Pavilion Committee. In recommending the payment Mr Smith stated that the park was ideal for the sports and he hoped to see the time when the pavilion would be built. A considerable amount of money was already in hand. The chairman congratulated the secretary on the efficient manner in which lie had carr.ied out his work and a motion expressing appreciation was recorded. It was resolved that the points money to be paid be on a basis of 3d a point as compared with 4d last year. It was stateu that the town schools would get most of the money —in fact seven-eighths of the total amount—and the drop as fai as the country schools were concerned would amount to only a few pence per school. It was decided to place on record the splendid service rendered by the ladies who conducted stalls. JIAIIAVAY BUSINESS.

Fitzhcrbcrt’ being re-elected unopposed, it is important to nolo that the elections on Saturday will represent several new features introduced by the 1941 Amendment to the Act. The first relates to the form of voting-paper and the method of voting. On this occasion the voter is to mark a cross in the square set opposite to the name of the candidate or candidates “for whom he desires to vote” in Jtcu of the old method of striking out the name of every candidate “for whom ho did not desire’ to vote.” A specimen voting-paper is on view at tfie Council Chambers. The other change relates to the duration of the poll, the closing hour being now 6 p.m. in lieu of 7 p.m.

GENERAL NEWS. The Kowhai troop assembled at the Den 1 at 6.30 on the lant parade evening. The \ troop was inspected by the Scoutmaster. Patrol leaders then instructed their patrol' in first aid, pioneering, knotting, signalling, compass work, and running. A 1 game to test the powers of observation and remembrance of each Scout was held later. Tho parade was concluded by flagdown and the presentation to P. L. Bruce True of his second-class badge. Sixteen Scouts have completed their course at fho fire station by passing their examinations for tho fireman’s badge. From now on these boys will only have to attend at the fire station each fortnight for a refresher course, Only two harriers siarfed in the 3i mile points race on Saturday, and one of the boys, D. Bould, ran his first rare with the chili, showing promise of developing into a first-class harrier. The other competitor was G. Whittaker. Members of the law and order section of the D Company (E.P.S.) Home Guard, were given an instructive lecture on filist aid work by Mr G. Hausmann (superintendent of the Sf. John Ambulance Division) at the conclusion of the parade on Saturday afternoon. when the lecturer dealt with the various methods to he employed should there he a street easualty. Members of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance services attended church parade on Sunday on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Florence Nightingale. Air and Mrs E. IT. Turner, of Feilding. have received advice that their son Wallace, who was serving with tho forces in Greece, is safe and well. Mrs Armour, of Wailii, js staying with her daughter, Mrs A. L. Dixon, of The Manse. Mrs T. H 1 York, of Awahurj Hoad is visiting Napier. Mrs H. W. Buchanan, of Colyton, is spending a holiday with her mother, ; Mrs B. E. Whitcombe, of New Pit’- ' mouth.
