IN AVAR SCHEME. (11.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 30 The United States army is sending a considerable number of young pilots to Britain to observe the methods and equipment used in modern aerial combat. Admiral Byrd told the Appropriations Committee that the Antarctic could be made a strategic supply base should the Panama Canal lie destroyed. Palmer Land 500 miles from the southern tip of South America, could bo used as a base lor ships and a cache for vital .supplies. Little America could he used'as. a landing place for plane flights between the United States and Australia.
