MUSICIAN’S JUBILEE
MR J. HOLMES IIUNNICLES. Mr J. Holmes Runnicles, who lias been organist and choirmaster at All Saints’ Church lor'the past 25 years, and who received the congratulations of parishioners at their annual meeting this week, achieved another record last month when he completed 25 years as president of the ’Professional Musicians’ Society. The inaugural meeting of this society, organised by the late Mrs Captain Brown, was held in the Mayor’s room in April, 11)11, and the late Mr C. W. Naylor was the first president, with Madame Harris as the first secretary. Of that pioneer band, Mrs Richards, now a life member, was on the council, also Mr Temple YVhite, and one of the foundation members was Mrs T. Attwood (daughter of Mrs Brown), still a member of the branch. Mr Runnicles became president in 1916 and Mrs Attwood secretary, an office she held until 1932, when Miss Evelyn Rawlins, the present secretary, took over. Incidentally Miss Rawlins is also due for congratulations on her silver jubilee as treasurer. With the passing of time the membership has fallen, due to the formation of neighbouring branches and also to the fact that membership is now only open to registered teachers. Through the years the members have met for mutual help and for addresses and other musical experience. A useful part in the musical life of the city has been played by arranging receptions for visiting artists and examiners and in spreading musical appreciation in the community. This milestone in Mr Runnicles’ office as president is also to be honoured at the annual meeting of the branch when Mr and Mrs Runnicles will entertain flic members at supper.
