To have qualified officers to guide them through the initial stages of their training was the good fortune of the Manawatu Heads Home Guard unit recently, and the' men have made fast progress in crcises and general drill. Recently i) r. Yeates gave a lecture to the unit on the construction of the Mills bomb and ‘ Molotov cocktails.” Last Saturday the men were engaged in field exercises. The death occurred on hnday of ah oxton resident of long standing. Mrs Elizabeth Aldridge, wife of Mr William Aldridge of Avenue Road, at the ago of 75 years. Miss Joan Barron, who has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs D. R. Barron, of Robinson Street, has been appointed as nurse in charge of the schorl dental clinic for the Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay districts. Anzac Dav was celebrated most impressively at Foxt.on this year. The military camp authorities co-operated with the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and in the parade there were over a thousand men mounted on horseback followed by the motor-cycle corps and other motorised units. Also iii the parade were Homo Guardsmen and Emergency Precaution Scheme members, including members of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association and the Sea Scouts. The address at the service was delivered by Rev. C. A. Poston.
