Lcarmonth) re ported that the gas made was 210,000 cubic feet less than in the corresponding ■ month of last year, and the output from the works was 280,000 cubic feet loss. The gas made per ton of coal was the same, cubic fret, and the proportion of New Zealand coal used was the, samo also. 87 per cent., the remaining 13 per cent, being Newcastle coal. The electrical engineer (Mr J. W. Muir) reported that the total number of consumers was now 7019. As against those of the corresponding month in the previous year, the power station returns showed an increase of 13.4 per cent. The city traffic manager reported that, compared with the figures for the corresponding month of the previous year. 12,893 more passengers were carried on the municipal buses and the revenue increased by £l5O 2s fid. The total increase in the route income over the year amounted to £1925 4s 4d. The librarian (Mr 11. Greenwood) reported that the total membership was 9699 as against 7140 at the corresponding period of the previous year. An average of 1086.33 books had been issued per day as against 1023.69 in the corresponding month of the previous year. The Manawatu Hockey Association • was granted the use of three grounds at Ilokowhitu Park at a rental of £lB. On the .recommendation of the works committee a request for the sealing of the roadway in College Street Extension was held over for consideration when the estimates are framed. Residents of Thomson Street and Cook Street who applied for the formation of street lawns fronting their properties arc to be advised that this is done when subsidised -labour is available. Stock route notices are to be erected where necessary in the Takaro area Permission was sought for raffles to be conducted in the streets on behalf ot the Pffblic Services Queen, in \\ elhngton, but this was refused in view of previous decisions of the council. The Post and Telegraph Department suggested that, instead of the posting box at the Napier Road crossing being placed on the bus service shelter shed, it be put on a power polo at the corner of Napier Road and Millar Street. The matter is to be referred to the Terrace End Progressive Association for comment. Mr A. D. Carl.slc, who advised that ho had been called up for military service, was granted one month's salary and leave under the usual conditions; a letter of congratulation is to be forwarded to bun. A tendor for the plastering of the interior walls of the municipal baths was accepted. The report of the engineer (Mr J. R. Hughes), inter alia, dealt with the street maintenance. footpath maintenance the letting of a contract for the formation of 40 chains of the Centennial drive and the general cleaning-up by No. Id scheme men of the area through which the road will pass.
