NAZI SHIPS SUNK.
IN SCANDINAVIAN WATERS. LONDON, Sept. 5. The Stock-holm correspondent of the Times says British naval and air activity is making German navigation precarious on the entire Scandinavian coast. Six merchantmen were destroyed outside Oslo during the week August 26. An oil tanker of 10,000 tons was also sunk in Oslo’s inner fiord. Hundreds of bodies of German soldiers have * been recently washed ashore between Trondheim and Tromso.
It is believed British submarines are sinking ships transferring men and materials from the Narvik area. The Gothenburg correspondent of the British United Press says fishermen report that British warships sank a 12,000-ton German transport off Skagenliorn. The fishermen saw the vessel sink rapidly. Only about a hundred men were' rescued. An Italian submarine attacked the British ship Ovoceta (3442 tons) 200 miles from the Portuguese coast on August 29. The Avoceta gave battle and her first shell destroyed the periscope of the submarine, which submerged after the Ovoeeta’s second shot.
