WARSHIPS LOST.
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Received September G, 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 5. It is officially announced that H.M.S. Ivanhoe and H.M.S. Esk have been sunk by enemy mine or torpedo. H.M.S. Express was damaged, but safely reached port. A Berlin communique states that the German navy recently sank five British destroyers, namely the Express, Esk, and Ivanhoe, in addition to two reported sunk by a U-boat on Monday. A submarine sank several armed mer chantmen totalling 27,000 tons from a strongly-protected convoy. A motor torpedo-boat flotilla last night attacked a convoy, off t'lie East Coast of England, sinking with torpedoes five armed merchantmen totalling 35,000 tons, including a 12.000 ton tanker, also an accompanying destroyer of the Imogen class. The convoy was dispersed.
