SOUTH AFRICAN PETITION.
“PEACE THROUGH VICTORY.”
LONDON, Sept. 5
The Daily Telegraph’s Capetown correspondent says a “Peace through Victory” petition bearing 516,922 signatures, and urging General Smuts not to allow a dishonourable peace, will be presented to-morrow. The petition represents the Government supporters’ reply to the weakened policy of General Hertzog’s followers, who mustered only 148,000 signatures for a women’s peace petition, Reports are current of trouble inside the Hertzog caucus because of the pressure of the extreme Republican element on General Hertzog and Dr Malau.
