DISTRICT CONFERENCE MINISTER TO ATTEND A further step toward the formation of the Home Guard in the terntory of which Palmerston North is the centre is to be taken next week. Ihe Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) to-day received a telegram from tho Minister or National Service (Hon. R. bemple) stating that he will meet local bociy representatives at the Palmerston North City Council Chambers, on Thursday forenoon, September 12, to discuss .the Emergency Reserve Corps Regulations and the formation of the Home GuardThe territory to which the conference will apply extends on the western side of the ranges from Otaki to the Rangitikei River and to the northern boundaries of the Oroua and Pohangina counties. Thus the boroughs of I dueling, Shannon, Foxton, Eevm and Otaki, and the counties of Kiwitea, Pohangina, Oroua. Manawatu, Kairanga and HorowJienua are included. Mr Semple will be returning to Wellington after the conference, which will be the only business to receive Ins at>tention at this centre.
