(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASIIHURST, Aug. 5. The monthly meeting of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild was presided over by the president, Mrs Currie. Apologies for absence were received from MesdaineMullins. Williams, Fairless, sem\, and Brewer." Mrs Holcroft, who has loft the district, tendered her resignation, which was accepted with regret. Mrs Young has resigned owing to leaving the . district and making her home in Taihape. Both members will be missed. Sympathy was expre«sed for Mrs Shaw, who at present is in hospital very ill. Renovations tp.j the Methodist parsonage are almost completed, it was stated. A bring-and-buy stall is to be held at tlie next meeting, the proceeds to go to the circuit fund. Gifts were received for the natives on tho stands, and there was a good response. The friends of Mr A. B. Brown will regret lo learn that lie is an inmate of a private hospital in Palmerston North. 'J'hc contractors for the bridge over tho Pc.hangina River for the Ashhurst-Wood-ville road are still progressing satisfactorily, and the Public Works Department gang have made good headway with the reformation of the road on the Mb hurst side o ! f the river. ( The -friends of Mrs W. Brockic will he pleased to know that she is now recovering from her illness though still an inmate of the Hospital. Mrs R. A. Jones has made good progress after her recent operation and is now home again. ' The lambing season has commenced in earnest locally and lambs are to be seen on most farms. The Ashhiirst School soccer team, after a run of successes, have now had a change of fori line and have sustained two losses on end, both by a margin 'ol one goal.
