KIMBOLTON ROAD CROSSING
In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Mr R M. Watson, S.M., expressed his opinion that the Kimbolton Road railway crossing is a dangerous one. Mr AVatson also said that the crossing should receive the attention of the authorities. , , , . , it is frequently contended liy motorists that the crossing is a dangerous one unless care is exercised in negotiating it and the signals (both lights and bell) are heeded. The main source of annoyance in connection with the crossing, however, is that at frequent intervals the bells continue to ring when a train is standing in the station for some minutes. It has been fo ul |d that some engine drivers have signalled motorists to proceed across when the bell is ringing and they know that it will be some minutes before the train moves on its journey, This action, while appreciated by the rnotoiist 1 a hurry to cross the line, lias had the effect that the motorist is inclined to take it upon himself to decide to proceed when a train is in the station and the other lines appear to be cleai, 0110 motorist states. Often curing the daj the crossing is completely blocked sometimes for as long as ten minutes. It will be recalled that some month, aero a tally of the traffic was taken at the crossing and enquiries made by tlie ‘‘Evening Standard” as to the reason for this elicited the information that it was in connection with the proposed erection of warning devices that the check was taken.
