SCHOOL COMMITTEES

LYTTON STREET SCHOOL. At ~ the meeting of the householders of Lvtton Street School, Mr C. V. Jewell reviewed the activities over the past two years and referred to the consolidation of the Maki.no, Awahuri and Waiata Schools with Lytton Street, stating that the changes had improved the grading and i stiffing of the school. Necessary improvements had been carried out and the question of remodelling the school had .not been lost sight of. Improvements to the playground had been carried out. Tliapks were due to Messrs G. AVilkinson and T. K. Hay for assistance. The Old Pupils’ Association was very much alive. The Parents’ Association had done good work and the latest donation made was that of a motor lawn mower. Mr Jewell also expressed thanks for the assistance given by Mr Smith and the teachers. Ho regretted the retirement of Mrs E. Scott (secretary) and Messrs Laing and Fawcett, who had all rendered good service. The financial statement was read by Mrs Scott and the chairman said it would be appreciated that without the assistance of the Parents’ Association and the incidental grants from the Education Board there would be little money to do the things which had been made possible. The report and statement or accounts were adopted. The headmaster (Mr AV. H. Smith) in his report stated that the roll stood at 375. as against 340 in 1935; the attendance had been very satisfactory. The grading of the school had gone up to 68, a rise of a suKgrade. Mr Smith referred to tlie consolidation and the solving of the boundary problems. Thanks were accorded the committee, chairman and the secretary for their co-operation. Mr Smith also appreciated the work of the Parents Association. Ho concluded by making reference to the religions instruction given by members of the Ministers Association. ’
