RESIGNATION DEMANDED.

Mlt BARNARD AND NAPIER SEAT. NAPIER, April 22. When a request was made at a meeting of 150 members of the Napier branch of the Labour Party to-night for those present who desired to support. Hon. W. E. Barnard to leave the gathering approximately 20 left the meeting place. This is according to Air M. Aloohan, national secretary of the party, in a statement after the meeting. The remaining 130 unanimously carried resolutions calling upon Air Barnard to resign the Napier seat, and of support for the Prime Alinister (Hon. P. Fraser). , It was stated that 220 Napier watersiders who were engaged on working an overseas vessel and who could not attend had apologised for their absence and indicated that they were 100 per cent, behind the Government. ' Those who left -the meeting included Air D. B. Alcßae, president of the branch, and four out of five members of the executive. The- meeting unanimously endorsed a resolution carried by the national executive accepting Air Barnard’s resignation from the party and demanding that he immediately resign his seat in Parliament as he lio longer had the confidence of the party which was responsible for electing him to Parliament.
