AUCKLAND BY-ELECTION.
FIXED FOR MAY IS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. April 22. The by-election to fill the Auckland West seat created by the death of lit. Hon. M. J. Savage has been fixed for Saturday, May 18. Nominations will close on May 1. The rolls closed this afternoon, when the number of enrolled voters in the electorate was approximately 16,353. No nominations had been received by the returning officer to-day. The official Labour choice of candidate will be announced on Wednesday night, and it has already been stated that the Communist Party will put forward a candidate, but the attitude of the National Party has not been defined so far.
