SOCIAL SECURITY ACT.
STATEMENTS OF INCOME. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 22; The opinion was expressed by a member of a deputation which interviewed Hon. W. E. Parry (actingMinister of Social Security) to-day that the provisions of the Social Security Act making it necessary for those in receipt of benefits to submit at required periods particulars of their earnings was the only part of the legislation which beneficiaries felt was vexatious and a hardship. Mr Parry said Parliament had ex- J pressly provided that the benefits * should be based on income from all :,;j sources received by the applicant or ; s beneficiary. “Unfortunately, there were (4 a few cases of persons who, while in f; receipt of benefits, had after a while ,;| been able to earn fairly good in-4|i comes,” Mr Parry said. “Some had.|f| voluntarily notified the department ofjl their position and had asked that them? social security benefits be cancelled®) There were other people, however?! who left it to the department to fi „ nd out that while drawing the benefits they were earning more than the Act allows. Whatever the personal circuiristances of the person concerned, ffi/1 overpayment made because of preyi- | ouslv undisclosed earnings must bedEßfunded to comply with the law.’’4||
