BIENNIAL ELECTION. MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL. < The biennial meeting of householders in the Manchester Street School’s area, last night, was presided over by -Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick, the attendance being poor and only two residents other than members of the committee were present. The reason may have been due to the fact that no election was necessary, previous members and Mr T. Tricklebank making up the required number of nominations. Dir Fitzpatrick reviewed tile activities of the committee during the past two years, stating that in 1938 the fancy _dross ball had shown a profit of £27 8s Id. The child ren had contributed to the Far East relief fund and a concert had shown a profit of £l4 17s 6d, the money being used lor the purchase of a eopygraph; £lO2 had been spent- on improvements, £OO of which had been paid by the Education Board. Relief workers under scheme No. 13A had been employed, the value of the work being estimated at £139. In 1935. £2B 6s 3(1 had been raised by a second concert. Flower day had produced £l3. There had been a marked improvement in the health of the children, both physical and mental, since the milk-in-schools scheme was introduced. The cricket ground had been levelled. In the following year similar results had been achieved in regard to the raising of money. Mr Fitzpatrick expressed his appreciation of the co-operative spirit which had prevailed between the headmaster, teaching staff and the committee. Dir Gaze had maintained a high tone of conduct in the school. The retiring chairman referred to the finances of the committee and the improvements carried out since the last householders’ meeting. He extended his congratulations to Mr Gaze on his splendid work and the work of the teachers. Mr Fitzpatrick asked that the good wishes of the householders’ meeting be conveyed l>v Mr Gaze to the teachers. Mrs S. McDowall also paid her tribute to Mr Gaze and the teachers. Replying, Dir Gaze said flic success attained had been largely due to tho knowledge that the teaching staff had the co-operation and support of the committee. Dir Gaze also acknowledged the loyal suport lie had enjoyed from members of the staff. He was deeply sorry that Dir Fitzpatrick had retired after so many valuable years of service—thirty. He felt that when it became generally known by parents that Dir Fitzpatrick had not sought reelection they would want to make some tangible recognition of his work. Mr J. Campbell (secretary) also spoke concerning Mr Fitzpatrick’s lengthy service and the committee recorded its warmest thanks to Dir Fitzpatrick. Tho meeting also recorded its appreciation of Dir Gaze’s services. Mr Fitzpatrick acknowledged tho remarks made. In declaring the members of the committee elected, Mr Fitzpatrick offered his congratulations to them and extended a welcome to Dir Tricklebank who took his seat on tho committee for tho first time. The new committee comprises: Dtrs P. G. Guy, Dlis S. DlcDowall, Messrs J. Campbell, L. Carmine, L. Matthews, T. Tricklebank, Z. McLeod, R. Burne and P. Dlaegaard. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Dir McLeod was elected chairman. while Mrs DlcDowall was elected to the position of secretary. A subcommittee was set up to arrange for a suitable function to be bold ill honour of Dir and Dtrs Fitzpatrick. LYTTON STREET SCHOOL. At the Lytton Street School, Dir C. Y. Jevveil presided over a large attendance. There being thirteen nominations for tho vacancies on the committee a ballot was held and the following were elected : Mrs T. Donaldson, Dlessrs G. Wilkinson, N. Peat, J. C. Christian, N. Bramwell, C. V. Guy, N. Dl. Ingram, C. V. Jewell and L. Jenkins. Mr Jewell was reelected chairman at a subsequentmeeting.
