ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.
For the past nine months the staff of tho Manawatu-Oroua Electric Power Board has been engaged on the work of building a new outdoor substation to supply Fcilding borough. The load in that area has grown considerably during recent years and the new substation, which is situated at the corner of East and Haybittle Streets, will have a capacity of 1800 lc.v.a., which should be ample for many years, to come. In addition to erecting the substation, a large number of new heavy cables have been erected in East and South Streets to replace cables that are overloaded, and at the same time provide for future loads. The whole work is now nearing finality and the power will have to cut off to-morrow afternoon to enable the new substation to be connected to the 11,000-volt lines, and the other new cables at 3300 volts to be joined to the existing borough system. This job is expected to take three hours. During next week the transformers and automatic equipment now supplying Feilding will be taken down from the Gladstone Street substation and transferred to the new site. The work of completing this long job is scheduled for completion on the fol lowing Sunday.
