MANAWATU UNION. PRETALIATIONS FOR SEASON. “I nm afraid I cannot paint any glowing picture of the coming season, for war service lias taken players from | all the clubs, and will take a greater number of players during the winter months. However, the edict lias gone forth that sport is to go oil, and it seems to be the only sensible thing to do.” The foregoing remarks were made by the president of the Alanawatu Rugby Union (Mr A. M. O.tigley), when welcoming the delegates to the union’s annual meeting. last evening. Proceeding, Mr Onglev said the clubs would lose members who bad been prominent for some time, but that behoved all others ‘‘to do an extra bit” so that those away would be able to come back and find that the clubs had not gone hack. That was what the union and the players could well aim at for this season, at least. If Rugby could be kept “marking time” those in charge would be doing what was expected of them. The president reported' that the management committee had no proposal to make on a recommendation from the last annual meeting that the union explore ways and means of arranging for representation of eveiy club oil the union’s management committee. . Mr A. AV. Hudson moved, and Mr J.* R. O’Sullivan seconded, a motion that the matter be referred back for further consideration. Alter a discussion the motion was lost hv 29 votes to 20. In proposing the adoption of the report (previously published), the president congratulated the University Club (Massey College) on winning the senior championship. Financially the season had lie on milch better than the previous one. While the representative standard had not been as high as expected, the dun standard had been higher than for many years. M r H. R. Crawford seconded the motion, which was carried. OFFICERS ELECTED. Ollicers were elected as follow: Patron, Mr H. F. Gibbons; president. Mr’ A. M. Ungiey; vice-presidents, .Messrs J. G. Eliott, K. Sherwood, J. Eagle, W. Gleeson, B. -Palmer, E. Clevelev; union doctors, j)r w\ Hunter Will, Messrs D. Mitchell, F.R.C.S., C. King, F.R.C.S. (Palmerston North); H. M. Monro, F.R.C.S., Dr. W. M. Macliuirin (b edding); and Dr. J’. H. Mules (Wooiiville); first aid officers, members of the St. John Ambulance ; lion, auditor, Air R. A. Brace. Air Crawford moved that the rules be amended so as to allow clubs who field their highest team in a grade lower than third grade a vote at the annual meeting. This was carried, another amendment made to the rules was to enable a representative of the junior advisory board to sit on the management committee. The subject was brought forward by the president. A set of rules to govern the board was referred back, to the clubs lor consideration, so that they might become familiar with them. A recommendation to the management committee that the season commence on April 2/ was catried. Air AI.
