WOODVILLE & DISTRICT

CROWN TENANTS. The following resolution was passed by the Southern Hawke's Bay provincial executive of the Fanners' Union at its meeting last week: —-"That in tho case of Crown tenants who have been before an Adjustment Commission and have had their liabilities adjusted in accordance with provisions of the Mortgagors and Lessees' Rehabilitation Act, 1936, renewal of their leases and mortgages lie granted in accordance with the Commission's order so that the tenants will not be required to pay any more under the ]\qw lease than they were required to pay under the terms of the orders." It was pointed out that the apparent policy of the Commissioner of Crown Lands was to demand more than the Commission's valuation of the property at the expiration of a lease. This inflicted a definite hardship and in many cases amounted to the nullification of the recommendations of the Commission when the lease or mortgage fell due within a vear or so of the order for relief. The Dominion office has been asked to intervene.
