SABOTAGE THEORY.
BELGIAN CANAL DISASTER. (Indepcdent Cable Service.) BRUSSELS, June 28. The possibility that sabotage caused the £15,000,000 Albert Canal to hurst its hanks is not ruled out. The sloping hanks of the canal conceal machinegun nests, intended as a defence line against invaders. The canal. 100 miles long, links Liego and Antwerp and permits the passage of vessels np to 2000 tons. Cracks first appeared in the hanks. They widened rapidly into enormous breaches. The engincer-in-charge of the breached section, a Rumanian, and his assistants, were drowned when trying to stem the Hood. Many other lives are feared to have liccu lost. Large tracts of surrounding country have been flooded. The breaches in the canal extend over a length of two miles. One breach is 300 yards wide. Police and troops in boats are searching for many who are missing. The damage is estimated at £BOO,OOO. The opening of the canal had been fixed for next month.
