OLD-AGE PENSIONS.
INVESTIGATION AT HOME. LONDON, July 27. The House of Commons, after a stormy debate, approved by 357 votes to 164 the Government’s decision to investigate without delay higher old-age pensions. Mr Chamberlain pointed out that the House bad not yet fully realised the burden of defence; the Government would not light-heartedly add further to the load.
