PROBABLY A RECORD.

LEVIN COMPANY’S PAY-OUT. Comment that the pay-out of nearly Is od per lb of buttcrfnt was up to the present a record for New Zealand butter factories this season, as lar as lie knew, was made by the chairman of directors (Mr S. A. Broadbelt) at the annual meeting of the Levin Cooperative Dairy Company. Ho said that credit was reflected by this on the directors, the factory, and the office staff. The drought conditions and the cream supplied to the Wellington market for domestic purposes had reduced production by 177 tons, compared with the previous year. That 92.07 per cent, of cream supplied was classed finest was a testimony to the co-operation of suppliers. Forty-four dairies were now_ registered as supplying milk to the Wellington City Milk Department, and suppliers engaged in this sphere had received an equivalent of Is lid a pound ol butterfat, thus contributing £(52 9s 9d to the company toward winter upkeep. Cream supply to A\ cllington by the factory bad shown a profit ol more than £3OOO. That was excellent business.

Herd-testing was recommended by the chairman, who said that last season 245,000 cows, out of the 1,820,000 milked in the Dominion, tested .an average of 2101 b. An unfavourable pig season accounted for a profit of £205, as against £9OO for the previous sea-

son. The bobby calf pool instituted -during the year, Air Broadbelt felt, would convert' to supporters those opposed to it when the final returns were available.

Mr AY. L. Bradfield, commenting on the final payment of almost 3d a pound of butterfat. sought a larger monthly advance. He said he considered this was too much to hold hack from shareholders. The chairman and Air A. ,T. Gimblett explained the circumstances governing the advance, and jio move was made to alter last year’s precedent.
