HILLS NEAR CITY. HEAVY OVERNIGHT RAIN. Mason nlaccd the fall at .03in., and for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day at .76in. . , . „ The temperature in the city at 9 a.m. to-day was as low as 38 degrees. Snow commenced to fall about daylight in the Manawatu Gorge to-dor. Tt was thick on the ground, and the hills in the vicinity were covered with a white mantle. . , T The snow was Sin. deep in the J\nmeroa district, and motorists were warned to proceed with care. The snow was still falling af Aokautoro at 11 o’clock this morning, and was down to the 500 ft. level, which is the lowest it has been for several years. Advice received in Palmerston North to-dav stated that snow was falling on tlie Rimutnkas this forenoon, and it was feared that if the fall continued the highway would become impassable.
