MANAWATU UNION. AIANAGEAIENT COAIAIITTEE. Further arrangements for the opening of the new season’s inter-club competitions were made at a meeting, last evening, of the management committee of the Alanawatu Rugby Union. Those present were Afessrs P. 0. Skoglund, J. R. Hardie, H. Hands, B. Palmer, J. Eagle, A. J. Galpin, E. Clevely and lv. AV. Eglinton.. Air Eglinton was elected to the chair in the absence of Air A. AI. Ongley, and apologies for absence were received from Afessrs J. A. Colquhoun, R. L. Park, H. R. Crawford and AV. Gleeson. The chairman extended a welcome to Air Galpin, who took his place for the first time as the successor to Air T. E. Davidson, who resigned owing to his transfer to Invercargill. AVitli reference to the equipping of the Park Road grounds with floodlights, Air Eglinton reported that he would inspect the ground to-day, and two lights were to be shifted from the Showgrounds pending the acquisition of others. The meeting decided that the lights to bo installed at the Park Road area be increased from 500 watts to 1000 watts each. The secretarv (Air G. A. Brown) was instructed to secure sawdust for tlie Park Road ground gymnasium as well as for the Showgrounds gymnasium. The New Zealand Union advised that the Thames Valley Union intended to move at the annual general meeting: “That the appointment of all referees to matches with visiting teams be left in the hands of the home union.” Air Hands suggested that the resoluption would be improved if it were amended so as to read that the local appointments board make the appointments. The matter was left in hands of the delegates to the meeting, Afessrs Ongley and Colquhoun. The University Club wrote asking to he allocated a bye on April 29 as the I Alassey College term would commencton Atay 9. Teams could be fielded for Atay 6. —Referred to Air Skoglund, who is making the draw, for his attention. The Feilding High School advised the entry of third and fifth grade teams, and sought the customary grant of £5 for the use of the school grounds last year. The letter also asked for consideration of the fact that teams would not he available until after the Atay vacation. —The question of fhe grant was held over until the next meeting, and the matter of the teams not being able to play until after. the Atay holidays was referred to Air Skoglunrl. The Sf. Patrick’s Club sought permission to play United in the senior and junior grades and Al'arist, (Wanganui) in the third grade on Saturday next. —Granted. The Woodville Club wrote spekingthe regrading to junior of Tv. Thomasen, Tv. Hutchins and R. AlcGregor.—The dub is to he asked to supplv information as to the players, and provided this is satisfactory the regrading is to ho granted. REGRADING RULE. The University Club sought rulings on the following points: (1) Do senior players in other unions have to apply for a .regrading in this union; and (2) do junior players have to bo regraded to third grade? The committee decided that application would have to he made for the regrading of any plaver who wished to play in a lower grade than that in which he had been engaged previously. The Technical School authorities sought the use of the Showgrounds on Wednesday from 2.45 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. for a weekly sports period. It was suggested that such games he confined to the Park Road grounds, and it was also pointed out that this would have to apply also to High School teams. Air Skoglund said that each Friday the High School had 24 teams engaged, which meant that 12 grounds were required. Without the Showgrounds area the High School would he inconvenienced. , The subject was left in the hands or the grounds committee for a report. All- ,T. S. Fowler, the Feilding representative of the union, advised that Air AV. AlcPhail would he willing to undertake the duties of the representative there.—Air AlcPhail was appointed . A tender for the painting of the Park Road pavilion was accepted. TEAAIS ENTERED. The following nohninations of teams were accepted: Senior.—Kia Ton, Feilding Old Boys, Old Boys, University, United, St. Patrick’s, Feilding. Junior. —Kia. Toa, Bunnythorpe, Feilding Old Boys, Old Boys, University, United, T'ooclvillo, St. Patrick’s. Thirds.—Kin, Ton, Feilding High School, Feilding Old Boys, Old Boys, University, United, St. Patrick’s, Feilding, High School. The closing of entries for the fourth grade was extended and the closing of nominations for fifth and sixth grade was left in the hands of Alessrs Skoglund and Colquhoun.
