UNIVERSITY EDUCATION.
FLAWS POINTED OUT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 18. The colleges of the University of New Zealand were suffering from a serious neglect which had evidently been going on for a long time and which must have the gravest consequences to the education system as a whole, said Dr. Tyler Dennett, late president of AYilliams College, Alnssachusetts, in a commemoration day address at Canterbury University College. The lecture method of teaching which, her said, had been discarded for at least 30 years, the lack of personal contact between staff and students, the inadequate libraries and inadequate staff and salaries —these were the principal signs noted by Professor Dennett of what lie called “malnutrition in the education system.” Ho emphasised ill at he was merely repeating what had been pointed out to him by responsible New Zealanders.
