BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS
INCREASE IN DEMAND, “The number of blood transfusjons has increased considerably, from 35 to 78, during the past year. Blood transfusion is playing a more important part butli in surgery and medicine and is a means of saving many lives,” reported the medical superintendent (Mr J. H. North), at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday. “The voluntary blood transfusion service lias been in operation during the past year and has improved considerably the hospital service in this respect. Donors of blood are much more easily obtained under this service than previously. Urgent cases receive blood transfusions more expeditiously under the voluntary service. The number of donors has gradually increased throughout the year. The local branch would be considerably strengthened if more donors would join the service, t must record rnv appreciation of the work of the honorary secretary (Air GPriest) in organising this important work.”
