COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
MANAAVATU BRANCH. Afrs H. Paterson (Pahiatua) presided at the April meeting of the Afanawatu branch of the National Council of AYomen, yesterday, in the Y.AV.C.A. club rooms. Also present were Alesdames J. Harris (Turakina), K. Ross, S. Green, S. J. AlcDowell, AI. D. Colquolioun, S. Lodge (Feilding), Aliss C. Alclvenny (Pahiatua), Aliss Simpson (Bonny Glen), Afrs AV. A. Boniface, Afisses At. I .Tones, AI. Afatheson, AI. Grant and C. Jamieson (acting-secretary).
The matter of co-operation of the affiliated societies in the Centennial celebrations of Palmerston North in February was discussed, and representatives agreed to ask their organisations that urgenev he given any suggestions they desired to make. The appointment of a secretary was held over until the annual meeting, Aliss Jamieson agreeing to continue meantime.
The question of a syllabus for the teaching of mothercraft in schools will he further considered at the next mooting, there having yet been no reply from the Director of Plunket Nursing. ATrs Paterson drew attention to the appeal made in the official bulletin to all national councils to intensify their efforts for peace in 1939. She further quoted from a Swiss correspondent. It was decided to endeavour to secure a speaker for the annual meeting, and suggestions were invited for the year’s programme, it being agreed that something of the subjects to he discussed at the 1940 Pan-Pacific AA ? omen’s Conference should be included.
There was a good attendance at the fortnightly Ingleside of the Manawatu Scottish Society held in the Cosmopolitan Hall oh Saturday evening. The M.C. was Mr V. M. Rowland.
