Tlie librarian (Mr H. _ Greenwood) reported to the City Council, last night, that'Miss S. Kingston had been the successful candidate for the position of junior library assistant and that she had commenced duty on March 6. The second library assistant, Miss E. A. Dawe. had resigned on March 4, and, with the approval of the chairman of the library committee, he had engaged Miss Stock well to fill the position temporarily. As the application of Miss Sheppard for a position on the staff had been deferred for a month ho recommended that Miss Sheppard be appointed to the position of second library assistant at n salary of £l5O per annum. Mr Greenwood said that Miss Sheppard intended to sit for the intermediate examination of the English Libraries Association next year A small motor car, the property of Mr I). J. Cooper, of 156 Russell Street, Palmerston North, was reported to the police to-day as having been unlawfully removed from where it was parked outride his residence last night.
