AIR CHIEF

APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 23. At afternoon tea in the office of the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones), the Government to-day took official farewell of Group-Captain Hon. R. A. Cochrane, who leaves on Saturday to return to England after two and a-half years’ engagement in New Zealand as Chief of the Air Staff. The function was attended by members of Cabinet at present in Wellington, Hon. P. Fraser (representing the Prime Minter), by Sir Harry Batterbce (British High Commieeioncr), and by departmental officers including representatives of the three service departments.

Mr Fraser, on behalf of the Prime Minister, expressed to Group-Cap-tain Cochrane the Government’s thanks for the services he had rendered over a period that had seen great expansion of the New Zealand Air Force. Mr Jones associated himself with this expression of thanks, and also thanked Group-Captain Cochrane for the services he had rendered to him personally. Both Ministers tendered to him the Government’s best wishes for the future.

Group-Captain Cochrane thanked the Government, the Ministers and departmental officers who had assisted him during his stay in New Zealand.
