NOTES.
Consequent on the excavations in the main street, shopkeepers are eontplaining of the dust nuisance, and it lias been suggested by sufferers that for the present the thoroughfare should tie either watered, or the traffic temporarily deviated to adjacent side streets. Some motorists passing through the town act in a very thoughtless manner, speeding at a rate that raises clouds of dust; which have quickly found their way into
business promises. On the other hand, there are those who do not come under the definition of “road hogs,” but who show some consideration for the shopkeepers. In the circumstances, it is a wonder that through traffic has not been deviated before the dust nuisance became so pronounced. There are several nearby side streets, and easy fncilties for parking so that no hardship would be occasioned by the erection of barriers in Vogel Street until the work has reached a stage when the cause for complaint would be removed. The contractors and Borough Council have granted a concession to the travelling public in not having taken steps to divert the traffic for the time being.
