PASSENGERS FROM OVERSEAS
NEW BASE COMMANDER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. Oct. 20. Passengers by the Rangitiki from London, which arrived to-day, included Captain H. M. Barnes, who is to replace Commander Tinley as officer-in-charge of the Devonport Naval Base. He is accmpanied by his -wife, daughter and young son. Captain Barnes has recently been attached to the Atlantic Fleet and, as the commander of a destroyer, last year, was engaged in the non-interven-tion blockade off the Spanish coast. During the war he served at Gallipoli and Zeebrugge. Other passengers included Lady Stewart, of Banks Peninsula, accompanied by her two daughters, after a visit to England; also Captain V. C. White Parsons, a retired New Zealand Shipping Company master, who has been on an extended tour to England and Europe; also Mr E. G. Norman, manager of Borthwiok’s works, Masterton, who is accompanied by his wife, on his return from England.
