ST. PETER’S GUILD.
The Eeries of pleasant card afternoons, given by St. Peter’s Ladies’ : Guild was brought to a close for this ••season yesterday. A most enjoyable time was spent, the prizes being awardtic] to Mesdames S. J. Parkes (contract), M. M. Malcolm (auction) and J. M. Ttoberts (euchre). Aggregate priaes for the year were won by Mesidames R. McKenzie (auction). R. DGamprill (contract) and J. M. Roberts (euchre). This afternoon members of the gniicl were the guests of St. David’s Ladies’ Guild ajfc their monthly meeting. IDEAS ABOUT~ APPLES. Apples ! What a host of uses can be found for them in both their raw and cooked states; and if you consider their nutritive value and health-pro-moting properties you wTTI see that they form a .frequent addition to the familv iienu. Raked Applos.—Plain baked apples are a favourite dish with many; but to lend a touch of piquancy any of the following ingredients may be added as stuffing: N.uts and raisins combined in equal quantities; mince meat; a few cloves and chopped dried fruits. Cold baked apples are an axcellent dish if served stuffed with fruit salad and garnished with whipped cream. Two-crust apple pie is a welcome ' variation from the usual pie if made in this ,manner: Put A thick apple sauce in a pie or tart shell and cover with whipped cream. Add the second crust and pour melted cheese over the whole. Other easily prepared apple desserts include apple tapioca, apple turnover, scalloped apples and apple sauce gelatine. The latter is made simply by scooping out the centre of a moulded gelatine made in the usual way and filling the centre with well-spiced apple sauce.
