CUP HOLDERS BEATEN.
DOMINION POLO TEAM. SYDNEY, April 21. The New Zealand polo players scored a decisive and clear-cut win in the semi-final against the Australasian Gold Cup holders, Hunter River, this afternoon, Hunter River led 2—o at th.: end of the first period, but thereafter until the end of the fifth period th 2 New Zealanders were definitely superior, finally winning by 7 goals to 4. G. Peake scored five goals and K. Peake and McKenzie one each. Excellent combination and hitting ivere displayed by the winners, hut the remarkable speed of their ponies gave them a decided advantage. The ponies are considered to be the finest string seen here since the depression. The Hunter River mounts were sluggish by comparison. lv. Peake was a magnificent back, his control on all hands being uncanny. McKenzie was sound, while both Nolan and G. Peake ivere versatile. Town and Country Whites beat Queensland by 8 goals to 5 in the other semi-final.
