FRUITLESS SEARCH.
PRISONER STILL AT LARGE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 21. A widespread search by warders is still proceeding for Colin William Glass, aged 26, a prisoner at the Waikeria Institute at Te Awamutu, who made a daring escape last Monday. It was discovered earlier in the week that a pair of trousers had been stolen from a milking shed about an hour’s walking distance from the institute, but a thorough combing or the area for the fugitive has met with no success. . , ± , Although the actual man hunt has been concentrated in the Waikeria district, police inquiries have extended much further afield and a vigilant watch is being kept throughout the North Island. The roads in the le Awamutu area in particular have been subjected to close surveillance. Several reports have been received by the police in several centres as to the activities of suspicious strangers. One of these came from Bruntwood, in the Cambridge district, where a Hamilton motorist noticed a man of similar appearance to the escaped prisoner in a hedge. Investigation, however, yielded no results.
