WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MANAWATU SUB-ASSOCIATION. The first annual meeting of the Manawatu Hockey Sub-Association was held last evening, Mr W. H. Wilson being in the chair. The cnairman explained that the meeting had been called to discuss the prospects for women's hockey during the coming season. The report and balance-sheet, he said, had been ineoroporated in the Manawatu Hockey Association’s report. ’’ lteference to a New Zealand women’s trial match being held in Palmerston North during June was made, while mention was also made by Mr Wilson to the difficulties met with last year in respect of two county teams which had not. paid their affiliation fees in full. They had, therefore, been suspended. The Manawatu Knitting Mills Club advised that they wished to have their colours changed from maroon and white to. black and white. —The request was granted. It was advised that in all probability teams would be entered in the competition by the Broadway, High School Old Girls, Manawatu ixmtting Mills, and Public Services Clubs. Mr J. Kearns was appointed delegate on the Manawatu Association. It was resolved that a sub-committee be appointed to advise the delegate of the clubs’ requirements. Each club is to elect two delegates to the committee. With only four teams in a competition and a playing season of 15 weeks, it was stated that there would be five rounds. Mr R. A. Brace, the secretary, suggested that three of the rounds be played, the team with the most points then being declared the winner, and that then a new competition be started. , . The matter was left to the sub-coin-mittee. . , , ~ Mr J. K. Paton was appointed the selector. Mr Kearns congratulated the officials of the Manawatu Association on the manner in which the women s game had been controlled last season.
