Salt sprinkled in the oven under baking tins will prevent burning. When making milk puddings, add a teaspoonful of grated suet occasionally. No butter or eggs need then be added.
Crease stains on mackintoshes can be removed with eucalyptus oil. Simply rub the marks with a rag soaked in eucalyptus and finish with a clean rag. Potatoes will cook more quickly if they are left to stand in hot water for about a quarter of an hour before being baked in the oven. Before using a new umbrella, inject a small quantity of vaseline into the hinge portion of the frame. Vaseline will not spread like other oils and spoil the covering, and is a sure preventive against rust. To keep copper kettles and fire irons bright, rub them with a flannel wrung out of hot water, then dipped in powdered borax. Rinse, then polish with a. dry duster. A new wa.y to seeve cheese with salatl is to press lib of ckeese through, a coarse sieve and season to taste with pepper and salt and nutmeg if preferred. A 7 on can roll a heaped tablespoonfui of cheese in your hands, to the shape of a carrot, and place a sprig of parsley in the stem end. AVipe the inside of the neck of the bottle before recorking a.fter using gum or glue. . , , , , If a cotton sheet is placed between two blankets it will give more warmth than four blankets. The’ cotton retains the warmth. „ , , , When eating fish and a fishbone gets caught in the throat immediately use a gargle consisting of a strong solution of bicarbonate of soda and water. This should give relief immediately.
