TREATMENT FOR FEET.

Feet that are quite welYbehaved for eight or nine months in the year often make themselves uncomfortably noticeable in winter. Chilblains and corns may appear and the feet become swollen and painful, so that it is not easy to wear shoes that are at all tight. It is never wise to attempt to wear summer shoes in winter. For one thing, winter shoes ought to be stouter, oi course, and for another, it is well to have them at least half a size larger. Always buy good quality shoes, with the best leather and workmanship, if you can afford them. AVhile shoes must be watertight and strong enough for winter wear, there is no reason why they should be heavy. If you have long, narrow feet, then you require long narrow shoes; if your feet are broad and short, then choose shoes of the same type. Spend time and trouble in securing a perfect fit and absolute comfort. Do nob consider any shoe, however smart, if it pinches or cramps the toes, rubs the heel, or is otherwise uncomfortable. The best shoes are skilfully cut to allow freedom for the toes, and at the same time to maintain a smart line.

Be careful, too, of the stockings you buy. They should fit perfectly. Stockings that are too tight compress the toes. When children’s woollen stockings have been washed many times they often become shrunken and hard. Don’t let them wear them in this condition, as it may cause serious foot trouble. When the feet are very tired, try the following treatment: Soak them for ten minutes in hot water to which a handful of soda has been added. Dry them thoroughly and then massage them with lanoline, rubbing it well, in the sole of the feet and between the toes. Have ready some cold water to which you have added eau de Cologne,' .Wring out a rough towel in this, and after removing any surplus cream from the feet, give them a brisk towelling. Dust with talcum or boracic powder and rest for half and hour (with the feet raised on a pillow.
