NEWBURY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, Feb. 24. The annual picnic of the Newbury School was held in the grounds adjoining the Newbury Hall kindly lent by Air E. W. Collins. An enjoyable time was spent. The following is the sports programme with competitions:—Children’s races: Girls, senior, Melva Cave; middle division, Betty Wilson; junior, Lorna Penbcrthy; consolation race, Audrey Cave; under school age, Elaino Thomson; S. 5 and 6, Peter Wood; S. 3 and 4, Elston Wood; S. 1 and 2, John Whitclock; primers Graeme Blackwood ; under 5, Roger Morris; consolation race, Robin Death; quarter mile, John Whitclock; raco for winners, John Whitelock; threc-loggcd, Oolin and Kevin Wood; sack race,' John Wild; club race, Kevin Wood; young ladies’ race, iVliss McAuley; men’s chain stepping,. Mr Thomson; ladies’, Mrs McAuley; young men’s raco, Air D. Blackwood, egg and spoon, Mr C. Wood; thread the needle, ladies, Aire W. Penbertby; men, Air C. Wood; nail driving, ladies, All's M. Hansen; men, Air W. Wild; married men’s race, Mr S. Knight; committee men’s race, A'lr T. Ross; chain stepping, Air jVI. Hansen and Air A. Hume. The committee thanked all who gave trophies, prizes and sweets, also those who helped in any other way. Air and Airs W. E. Thomson have as their guests Air Thomson’s father , and sister, Air and Aliss Thomson, of Mt. Albert. After spending a holiday with Mr and Airs S. Knight, Aliss Allen and Miss White, of Wellington, have returned home.
