MISS JUNE BARSON
WINSOME PERSONALITY. Petite, natural in voice and all her ways, Miss June Barson, of Auckland, winner of the Deanna Durbin quest in New could not have expresesd better than in her own manner and bearing what any parent could wish a daughter to be, when she was entertained at morning tea in Palmerston North to-day. Aliss Barson, who undertakes her first professional appearance in New Zealand on the theatrical stage in Palmerston North at tile Mayfair Theatre to-mor-row, is' accompanied by Airs .Crust as chaperone. Charming in a white dress which became her age of 14 years, June Barson talked with others in the party which included Airs Crust, Air T. L. Craigie, manager of the theatre, Air R. Nelson," publicity manager for versal Flms, and Air and Airs E. F. de Tourret. She told of her trip to Sydney, from which she has just returned, of her arrival in Palmerston North this morning from Auckland, and how a number of children recognised her and approached her for autographs. In all she expresses in her personality the voice which has delighted many New Zealanders since she was adjudged the winner from 1000 entrants in the final competitions of the New Zealand quest. In Sydney June Barson made .test gramophone records and so successful were they that presses were made immediately for their production on a commercial scale. Advance royalties also were paid. Her voice was tested for film reproduction, too, and again the result was most promising. Money paid to her. on the current tour, which will embrace AVellington, Wanganui, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Hawera, will go toward the furtherance of her musical education, in which she at present has a two-year term with an Auckland teacher. Air Craigie expressed a welcome to the visitor at this morning’s gathering, voicing the wish that she would have a very happy time here and the hope also that her engagement with Universal Films on the Fuller-Hayward circuit would be the forerunner of her going on to great success. Air Nelson associated himself with Air Craigie, giving his personal good wishes to Aliss Barson and thanking the host and hostess.
