Nov. 21. 1 Mr and Mrs Alye were host and hostess z at tho hall on Thursday, night, whon they r invited a large number of guests to ccle- . brute tho coming-of-ago of their eldor r daughter, Merle. Some 150 guests wero j present, and a jolly evening was spent. Items and games, interspersod with dancing, made the hours speed by, and it was time to go hom call too aoon. Songs were sung by Mrs Graham Yule, and ■ later a duct by Mrs Yule and Mrs J. 1 Mabcy, and tap dancing by Miss Mar- • lone Atkinson, of Tokomaru. The music was supplied by Miss McKenzie, of Palmerston North, and Mr J. Alsop, of Palmerston North, was M.C. Later in tho evening there was a sit-down supper. Tho tables wero gay with bulloons and coloured etroamers, and tho floral decorations wore lupins and arum lilies. Mr B. N. Norman proposed the health of the guest of | honour, and Mr Alsop, of Foxton, that of her parents: and Mr 11. Alvo, tho ladies. Miss Merle Alvo then lit the 21 candles on her cake, wbioh was artistically decorI ated in pink, which was subsequently cut and shared' by everybody present. Mrs Alvo received her guests wearing a navy blue crepo-dc-chine frock with touches of rod. Welcome rain fell in these parts during the week, but more of it is needed to bo of any lasting benefit. There are already signs of ensilage activity, and this method of providing autumn and winter feed for stock is Steadily growing in popularity in tho district, though there are many farmers who strongly contend that milch hay is needed with root crops for a bnlanced ration.
